From this week, working people in North Cornwall will receive the largest ever cut to National Insurance, as we deliver on our promise to cut taxes and help grow the economy. Last year, we took the difficult decisions that got the economy back on track and delivered on our pledge to halve inflation. This means that we can now responsibly cut taxes, so we have reduced National Insurance from 12 per cent to 10 per cent from the 6th of January 2024, meaning employees will benefit from an average of £450 a year. Self-employed people in North Cornwall will also benefit by an average of £350 a year. We are taking the long-term decisions to responsibly cut taxes and grow the economy, rewarding hard work and putting more money back in the pockets of families across the country.
Over Christmas and New Year, I was at home in the constituency and managed to get around to several local events and it was great to meet local people. We have seen some very poor weather to start the year and I have had reports about flooding in the constituency. My team has contacted the Environment Agency about several incidents, but you can also contact them directly to report any pollution or flooding issues. It's manned 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and the number is 0800 80 70 60.
All in all, 2024 is shaping up to be a very busy year, and there will be a General Election, probably in the second half. I’m looking forward to the campaign and the chance to stand again.
Since my election in 2015, my office has actioned over 60,000 cases on behalf of North Cornwall residents. If you require my help with anything, including benefits, the NHS, or cost of living support then please get in touch. I also raise constituent concerns and issues with Ministers in Westminster including policy and lobbying, so please contact me via firstname.lastname@example.org or 01208 74337. I hold regular advice surgeries across North Cornwall, over the phone and online. If you would like to meet with me this can be arranged via my office. Further information about the work I do on behalf of our community can be found at www.scottmann.org.uk and on social media - www.facebook.com/therightmannforNorthCornwall.
